Fridge Factor Pack Science Challenge 2026

February 16 - March 11

Science is Calling — and It’s Coming From Inside Your Fridge!

Fridge Factor is a participatory science project tackling food disposal and foodborne illness one fridge at a time. All you need is a fridge, a phone, and a few minutes a day to help collect crucial data as part of the Spring 2026 Pack Science Challenge.

What to Expect

Participants will track their fridge’s temperature, keep a food disposal diary, and answer questions about foodborne illness and food storage habits. The data collected will help researchers develop real-world solutions to improve public health and reduce food waste right here on campus.

Who Should Attend?

Any NC State student who wants to make a real difference! No prior research experience needed — just curiosity and a fridge.

Why Participate?

  • Contribute to real research improving public health and sustainability
  • Learn how your fridge habits impact food safety
  • Be part of a campus-wide citizen science movement
  • Earn a cup of Howling Cow ice cream upon completion — plus a Pack Science Challenge t-shirt for early returners!

Wish to Participate?
