We bring together students, faculty, and industry with a shared vision: to use business as a driver for positive change.

Preparing the next generation of leaders

The Business Sustainability Collaborative is an academic initiative at NC State that brings together students, leading faculty and the business community to redefine how business success is measured.

We develop leaders who can apply research, technology, and critical thinking to drive and measure sustainable business practices. We connect students and faculty with real-world companies to put sustainable practices into action. We work with faculty to integrate environmental, social, and financial responsibility across the curriculum of the Poole College of Management.

To us, “Business sustainability” is more than a buzzword, it’s an ethic to be embodied and a long-term strategy to drive innovation and competitive advantage. Sustainable businesses create value not just for their shareholders, but for their communities.

A Leader in the B Corporation Movement

B Corporations (or benefit corporations) are for-profit companies that seek to have a positive impact on society, their workers, the environment and the wider world. B Corporations are certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of performance, accountability and transparency. Today, there are around 2,500 B Corporations worldwide, as well as hundreds of universities supporting the movement through teaching and research.

NC State’s Business Sustainability Collaborative is among the global leaders in the field. Through our innovative B Corp Clinic, we link talented students with aspiring B Corporations for the benefit of both. Students get a semester-long consulting experience with up-and-coming companies; and those same companies get access to cutting-edge insights from the world of business sustainability.

212 Student Consultants

Over the last three years, students from across seven universities worked on more than three dozen sustainability projects for real-world businesses through our B Corp Clinic.
