Media discussion of climate change and the future of clean energy is often deeply politicized. Yet the Carlotte Observer reports on a new poll of NC residents which shows broad, bi-partisan support for renewable energy, as well as a majority specifically supporting tax breaks and other government incentives for clean energy expansion. Among the polls findings:

  • Six in 10 NC residents support tax breaks and other incentives for solar energy
  • 86% of Democrats, 84% of independents and 77% of Republicans saying NC should seek more alternative energy sources
  • Nine in 10 NC residents support lifting restrictions on renewable energy companies selling electricity direct to consumers

The poll of 803 voters was commissioned bu the NC Sustainable Energy Association.
