B Corporations

What are B Corporations?

In short, a B Corporation is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk.

B Corporations are certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

Today, there is a growing community of more than 1,000 Certified B Corps spanning 33 countries and over 60 industries, working together toward one unifying goal: to redefine success in business.

North Carolina B Corps Community

NC State is an active participant in the North Carolina B Corp community, an informal network of Certified B Corporations and like-minded allies, dedicated to promoting business as a force for social and environmental good, both in North Carolina and around the world.

The community organizes events. We advocate for mission-driven businesses. And we raise awareness about how businesses can do more to improve their social and environmental impact and invest in their communities.

NC State B Corp Programs

The Poole College Business Sustainability Collaborative is working with a number of NC State and community partners to provide opportunities to connect students, faculty, and staff to the growing NC B Corps community.  The goal is to work on experiential learning projects that will help to build the community.

The NC State B Corp Clinic
The NC State B Corp Clinic is a collaboration between the BSC, the NC State Entrepreneurship Clinic, the NC State Net Impact Chapters and HQ Raleigh to connect aspiring B Corps in the HQ network to teams of students and mentors to work through the certification process.

B Corp Champions Category in eGames
The B Corp Champions Category in the Lulu eGames is a new track in our NC State student business plan competition, designed to support aspiring student entrepreneurs in building the next generation of B Corps.  $10,000 in prize money and expert judges are made possible thanks to the generous support of some NC B Corp Champions, including Seventh Generation, The Redwoods Group, Murphy's Naturals, and HQ Raleigh.

B Corp Academic Community

The B Corp Academic Community works to connect the academic community engaged in research, curriculum development and experiential learning projects with the B Corp community, start a dialogue among members of the academic community sharing best practices and inspiration, and develop connections, programs and resources that will advance innovative research, engage students in real world learning and strengthen the global B Corp community.
