What does business sustainability mean to you? What do you think sustainability should mean to businesses?

There will be a point in future, where in order to survive long term, businesses will have to reimagine capitalism and shift towards a bigger focus on how environmental, and social factors affect them. A successful business would be the one that is able to maintain a balance between sustainability and profits.

What sustainability challenge would you most like to solve?

Making it profitable for a company to be in the clean energy business while ensuring it is economically viable for the everyday consumer to utilize renewable energy.

Who do you admire for championing positive change through business?

Elon Musk—the Tesla story is simply incredible.

Moving forward, how do you plan to use business as a force for good?

I will work on de-carbonizing the electric grid by maximizing the use of renewable energy and build a business that focuses on the triple bottom line..

What do you think are some challenges with sustainable businesses or becoming a sustainable business?

Being sustainable is still too expensive for many businesses. Making sustainability cost-effective will help businesses make the sustainable choice much easily.

What’s your advice for fellow students who might be interested in sustainability, but don’t know where to start?

Participate in Business Sustainability Collaborative’s events at NC State. Pay close attention to your everyday habits to figure out how you can reduce your impact on the environment. Find a sustainability topic that you feel most passionately about and connect with people who are working in that domain to learn about how they do what they do. Use social media to stay up-to-date on sustainability innovations that are taking places in places around the world. .
