My name is Meredith Motamen, and I am a newly graduated senior at NC State University. I majored in Environmental Sciences with a focus in Sustainability and triple minored in Environmental Technology & Management, Horticultural Science, and Biological Sciences. I’ve spent my whole life in Raleigh, North Carolina, and am incredibly passionate about corporate sustainability, environmental policy, sustainability analysis, and the preservation of our planet and its natural resources.

During my senior year at NC State, I served as a BSC Associate with the Business Sustainability Collaborative, working alongside other associates and mentors to help enhance the intiative. One of the projects that several of us worked on was the implementation of the Sustainability Career Development Program Spring 2025 pilot. The goal of this program is to give all students—both undergraduate and graduate—the opportunity to engage with sustainability on campus while enhancing their knowledge, applied learning, career development, and leadership skills.

Students complete various tasks related to sustainability around campus, such as volunteer opportunities, speaker events, internships or part-time work, mentorship programs, and more. Each activity is worth a certain number of PACKImpact points. At the end of their time at NC State, students’ total points are tallied, and they are placed into a bronze, silver, or gold reward tier. The program is currently housed on Moodle and was successfully piloted with about 50 students during the Spring 2025 semester. The Business Sustainability Collaborative also received a grant from NC State’s Sustainability Fund to enhance the program and continue it into the 2025–2026 academic year.

As a member of the Sustainability Career Development Program Student Advisory Board, I worked directly on the development and implementation of this pilot program, collaborating with other students and mentors to make the program as seamless and beneficial as possible. Watching it come to life and seeing students successfully submit points was incredibly rewarding. It made me very excited to see where the program will go in the future once it is fully established. I was even able to participate in the pilot launch and submit my own PACKImpact points, which allowed me to reach the gold tier before graduating.

I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to work as a BSC Associate this past year and to serve on the Sustainability Career Development Program Student Advisory Board. There is nothing more fulfilling than knowing I made a difference in the NC State community and helped advance the university’s sustainability initiatives. While my time at NC State is coming to an end, my journey in the sustainability field is not. This summer, I will be moving to Charlotte, NC, to work for EnPro Industries as a full-time Sustainability Analyst. I am so excited to continue pursuing my passion, and I can’t thank NC State enough for the opportunities that helped me get here. Keep finding ways to be sustainable, Wolfpack—together, we can work toward a more sustainable future for all.
