B Corporation Clinic

NC State’s B Corp Clinic connects students to aspiring B Corporations to help them improve their environmental and social impact. The Clinic will provide an opportunity to embed students in the local entrepreneurship community and engage students in an experiential learning opportunity. Students in the B Corp Clinic study best practices in areas ranging from governance to workers to environmental and social impact, and hone their critical thinking skills.

The broader goal of the B Corp Clinic is to engage the Raleigh business community around the B Corp model and to grow the number of businesses and the resources for the local B Corp community. Our hope is that this model can initially be replicated at our sister academic institutions and their partners and eventually reach a broader audience. The Clinic also provides an opportunity for scholarly research about B Corporations.

At the time, HQ Raleigh projected that it was 3 points away from certification. The team completed several projects resulting in recommendations worth 4.1 points. HQ Raleigh is now B Corp Certified.

Fall 2016 B Corp Clinic

On Friday, October 2nd, 2015, we officially launched NC State’s B Corp Clinic, designed to connect students to aspiring B Corporations in order to help them improve their environmental and social impact. The Clinic provides an opportunity to embed students in the local entrepreneurship community and engage students in a unique experiential learning opportunity. Twenty four students from NC State, SKEMA Business School, UNC Chapel Hill, and Duke University worked with one of four aspiring B Corporations, Vital Plan, Pendo, Lea(R)n, and Vaporware, in partnership with subject matter experts to obtain a baseline B Impact Score and to set tactical goals to help the companies improve their impact over time. Vital Plan is now B Corp Certified!
